Maroni - Most of those who visit Cyprus will never discover Maroni, just seven minutes off the A2, the main road from Larnaca to Limassol and Paphos. The village is situated in a spot where its inhabitants can connect with major centres or remain quietly detached five minutes from the sea! Maroni has a resident population of about four hundred people including around sixty or so expatriates.

Maroni enjoys its status as a village; development here is restricted and so there will not be huge complexes built around you. As well as a bank, medical centre and garage services there is a range of typical shops offering quality goods and services within easy reach. Advertisers in the Maroni News give an indication of what is available locally Local taverns and restaurants provide truly great food and wines at prices that will amaze even the most cost conscious gastronomes!

Aphrodite perfumes sniffed out .....

The world's oldest perfumes have been found on Cyprus by a team of archaeologists.

The perfumes were scented with extracts of lavender, bay, rosemary, pine or coriander and kept in tiny, translucent alabaster bottles. The remaining traces found in Pyrgos, in the south of the island, are more than 4000 years old.

THE Department of Antiquities will undertake a scientific survey of a newly-discovered ancient wreck in Cyprus territorial waters early in the next year, Antiquities Director Pavlos Flourentzos has said.

Two amateur divers claim to be the first to have spotted the sunken vessel in the Mazotos- Maroni area about 3km off the island's south coast and reported it to the author ities about two months ago.

But Flourentos said that infomation about the existence of a wreck in that area was known to the Department of Antiquities for years, while they learnt of the exact location only a few months ago.

Why Recycle Find out WHY???

Look at Cans For Kids

Cans For Kids is a registered charity, formed in 1990 to organise the collection and recycling of aluminium cans in Cyprus. To encourage people to save their cans, it was decided to use the proceeds to purchase medical equipment for the children's wards at Cypriot hospitals. Since its inception, more than 16 million cans have been collected, and over £125,000 worth of equipment has been donated to the Makarios Hospital in Nicosia, which is the central paediatric hospital in Cyprus, treating seriously ill children from all over the island.
